JUNE 22, 1996

LOCATION: St. Catherine's in Norwood

LINEUP: Linford, Karin

REVIEW BY: Shelly Ross

Linford and Karin played at St. Catherine's in Norwood. (GORGEOUS
church - and the owners are selling the pews if anyone would like to
own a church pew. I think they said they were $290.) They ended up
playing inside - Karin's suggestion. Good thing because right after they
started playing it began raining. Hey, this is Ohio, what do you expect?
Ark sales are really up here.

Anyway...

They started playing at 8:30, the lights were low - two spotlights sort of
lit the area behind where they were sitting. Several candles were
burning around their equipment.

Bothered - Linford on keyboards - this song takes on a whole different
feel with keyboards instead of the bass. I like it better this way, but I
love piano - I'm sure that's a big part of it.

Etcetera Whatever - Linford on keyboards, Karin on guitar - I really really
really like this song. Glad it's on the new album, then I can hear it
whenever I want.

Ubiquitious Hands - Linford on keyboards. Everything sounds so
different and new this way.

Poughkeepsie - Linford on keyboards, Karin on guitar. This one's on the
new album also.

June - Linford on keyboards throughout, Karin on guitar at the end. This
song was "For Todd, who's mothers name was June".

Little Blue River - Linford on keyboards, Karin on guitar. This song was
written by Karin on their way home from a gig in Indiana or Illinois.
There's actually a river in Indiana called the 'Little Blue River'. This song
is for Jimmy D, he used to be their road manager and is sort of a local
legend in Cincinnati.

Everyman's Daughter - Linford on keyboards, Karin on guitar. This one is
on the new album. This is the first time I remember hearing this song,
another good one!

Latter Days - Linford on keyboard. Another one for the new album. I like
this song more every time I hear it. The first time I heard it I thought it
was too slow, but that's not the case anymore. The lyrics are fantastic.

Little Genius - Linford on keyboard. I NEVER NEVER NEVER tire of
hearing this song. Just Linford and his piano. My feelings about this
song are tied very closely to Sudsy's. Ken (their old sound guy) would
play this song right before they came on stage. You always knew it
was the prelude to something fantastic. Whenever I hear this song I
always feel like I'm heading up the first HUGE hill on a roller coaster (like
the Beast at Kings Island) - there's this slow build up, the excitement and
anticipation are building, you're being pulled along and then WHOOSH,
they're all on stage and the ride begins.

Circle of Quiet - Linford on keyboard and Karin on guitar.

The Seahorse - Linford on keyboard and Karin on guitar. Also on the
new album. I think this was inspired by the manor they stayed at while in
England last time they were there.

All I Need Is Everything - Linford and Karin on guitar. Another new album
track. This song ROCKS. I could see this being a radio single - as soon
as the music starts Karin is singing. It's all right there.

Rhapsodie - Linford on keyboard, Karin on guitar. Until you've heard this
song live you haven't really heard it. It's moving on the CD, but it can
bring tears to your eyes live. And it's always totally silent among the
audience when Karin sings. She did the intro she's added and I have it
to send out - but alas, I forgot it, so I'll have to post it later I do remember
that the last line before "And I couldn't love you anymore..." is "Yours is
the only body I want next to mine."

All in all a WONDERFUL experience. I wish I had a tape of it, everything
sounds so different this way. I'd highly recommend making a road trip to
see Karin and Linford play. I'm going to make the trek to Kent.

AND - Monk is going to be playing in this same setting (St.
Catherines in Norwood) on July 13 - now there's one I can't wait
for. It's been too long since I've seen them...
