DATE: NOVEMBER 23, 1996

LOCATION: Athens, GA

LINEUP: Karin, Linford, Brian, Ric

REVIEW BY: Reid Davis

Highlights: After Linford mentioned that Jack's Valentine was borne out of
traveling in a van and reading Jack Kerouac's "On The Road", an overzealous
fan decided to recite what must have been a paragraph from the book at the
top of his lungs. (If you're on the list, 'fess up.) This prompted Karin
to cooly reply "I'll have what HE's having."

* A "funk-i-fied" take on My Love Is A Fever. An already soulful song
infused with even more soul. And somewhere along the line they switched to
a straight jazz swing rhythm, which they pulled off quite successfully.
(Are you surprised by this?) Naturally, this prompted yet another fan to
scream "Blow, man, blow!" in the quiet spot before the next song. (I'll bet
it was the same guy.)

* I always thought The Seahorse would be a wonderful song with the whole
band. I was right. Ric's lap steel (!) was just what the song needed. I
want this version on the next "real" album, guys.

* Ric is one of the rarest finds in popular music; a guitarist with
incredible licks, chops to burn, but the restraint and good taste to know
what serves the song and what doesn't. (Take that, Joe Satriani!) All that
is to say, this guy blows me away. I would gladly pay full price for an
instrumental guitar CD from the man.

* I particularly enjoy the little quotes stuck inside the "extended" concert
versions of some of the songs. Beatles, Zeppelin... what fun.
